Rep. Rebimbas Votes to Send Stimulus Funding to Naugatuck
The Connecticut General Assembly’s powerful budget-writing Appropriations Committee convened on Wednesday to review allocations from federal funds obtained by Connecticut through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Community Development Block Grant Recover Program Allocation Plan. Representative Rosa Rebimbas (R-Naugatuck), who sits on the committee, voted to allocate these federal funds to communities most in need, including Naugatuck. The Federal Block Grant Allocation Program will send $3,616,527.00 in non-entitlement funds indirectly to small cities. The Department of Economic and Community Development proposed prioritizing those funds toward twelve communities that have experienced a high level of foreclosure activity, one of which is Naugatuck.
“I am very pleased that Naugatuck is on the short-list to receive this much-needed economic boost,” said Rep. Rebimbas. “Those of us on the Appropriations Committee want to see that those communities hardest hit by this economic crisis are first in line for assistance. I can certainly attest to the fact that Naugatuck has been very seriously impacted by the state of the economy, and I am glad that I am in a position to see that our community gets some relief.”
Other communities which are on the DECD short-list for funding include Ansonia, Bloomfield, East Haven, Enfield, Killingly, New Milford, Plainfield, Shelton, Torrington, Wallingford and Windsor. These communities are given the opportunity to submit applications for funding.
